JOSEF PICHLER ALTO ADIGE / SOUTH TYROL SANDY-LOAMY LIMESTONE GRAVEL SOILS Since 1851, the Pichler family has owned the Bergmannhof estate, situated along the South Tyrolean Wine Route in Eppan. The quality of their wines is a testament to three generations' worth of experience, knowledge, family effort, and the passion that drives them in both the vineyard and the cellar. Today, Bergmannhof thrives with three generations working togetherGrandpa Karl, Mama Agata, Father Josef, and sons Johannes and Benjamin. Nestled in Unterrain, Eppan, at an elevation of 270 meters, Bergmannhof's primary vineyards are located directly at the estate in the historically significant and warm "Huberfeld" location, featuring sandy-loamy limestone gravel soils. In Gaid, 800 meters above sea level, the pinot blanc vines and the vibrant surrounding nature are their greatest assets. The approach is rooted in working harmoniously with nature, strengthening vines through organic processes.Harvest, a special yearly event, involves the entire extended family contributing eagerly. Grapes are meticulously handpicked in multiple passes, carefully selected, and transported in small crates to the estate. The aging process primarily occurs in wooden barrels with extended contact with the lees, allowing the wines to unfold their full potential over time. With a commitment to minimal sulphur usage and a dedication to avoiding unnecessary clarifications and filtrations, Bergmannhof intervenes as little as possible in the maturation process. Recognising the earth as their home, they prioritise maintaining an intact nature for the sake of their health and the health of others. Sustainable living and management involve caring for, keeping healthy, and regenerating their most precious resources: nature, relationships, and their vineyard.
